August 15, 1935 - August 5, 2021
Passed into the arms of his Savior on August 5th, 2021, Emil William Meister, beloved husband of Shirley (Chase) Meister, father of Greg (Brenda), Gerry (Clare); grandfather of Jordan (Satomi), Evan, Katie and Cory; brother of Esther (Robert) Pearson; uncle of Cherie (Rene) Cimon.
Predeceased by his parents Wilhelm and Olga (Schultz) Meister.
Emil was born and educated in Vernon, British Columbia. As a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church, he was instrumental in the establishment of the Heron Grove assisted living complex; President of Vernon Jaycees when the Vernon Winter Carnival was initiated, past President of B.C. Jaycees and a JCI Senator; president of the North Kamloops Business Association; and teacher, fondly known as "Papa Smurf" and "Mr. Happy".
His entrepreneurial pursuits included sawdust delivery with his father; a camera and stereo store; traffic control; park maintenance; and soft serve flavours and equipment sales with his sons.
Socially, he was an avid bowler, an ardent Canucks fan, world traveller, member of 1953 grad monthly luncheon group, and friend to many.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, August 19th at 2:30 pm at: Bethel Funeral Chapel, 5605 27th Street, Vernon BC
A maximum of 50 people, including family, are permitted in the chapel. Please RSVP by email to meister@coolchameleon.com if you plan to attend.
The family is grateful that Emil's last days were spent under the attentive care of the Vernon Jubilee Hospital staff. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made in Emil's memory to:
