Engblom Doris Johanna
Doris was born August 7, 1927 in Pendryl, Alberta. She grew up on the family farm, the fourth in a family of nine. Like so many of her generation, her schooling was in a one-room country school. In the winter she and her siblings went to school in a one-horse cutter.
From her late teens, Doris lived in many places. In her early years she lived in Vancouver, Victoria, northern BC, northern Alberta, and several places in Quebec. Around 1973, she returned to Vancouver where she lived until 2007, when she moved to Vernon with her sister Ruth. Doris spent the last two years of her life at Gateby Care Centre where she received loving and affectionate care, for which the family is very grateful.
Though she learned good principles from her father and mother, she did not have any formal religious instruction during her childhood. In the early 1950’s she learned of the Bible’s teachings regarding Jehovah and Jesus. She learned where the earth and mankind fit into their arrangement and purpose. She acted upon those teachings and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1954.
Doris was faithful to her dedication to Jehovah, though her deteriorating health prevented her from being active the last few years. She died April 30, 2010 and now sleeps in death until the resurrection.
Doris is survived by her brothers Vern and Ken Engblom in Vancouver, sisters Ruth McNeill and Helen Cuthbert in Vernon, sister Mary Peterson in Edmonton and sister Ivy Seely in Alder Flats, AB. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and many friends. She was pre-deceased by her parents, brother Walter and sister Elsie, and four nephews.
