With aching hearts we are sad to announce the passing of Erik August Wille, a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather at the age of 83 years.
Erik passed away in Vernon Jubilee Hospital Thursday Dec.10 2009, after a short battle with cancer. He will be sadly missed by his wife Helena (Sletten) and children, Peter, Dennis and Erik Jr. (Dona) and his grandchildren, Amanda (Mike), Ashley (Patrick), Braden and Jordan, and his great granddaughter Summer Marie.
Erik was born in Denmark April 8, 1926. Erik served in the Danish Army as a young man from 1946 – 1947. After which he moved to Norway where he met his wife Helena. Erik and his wife and young son (Peter) immigrating to Hudson Bay Saskatchewan in 1958 after a long voyage across the Atlantic. Shortly thereafter Erik decided to make the move to Lynn Lake Manitoba which he called home for the next 15 years. While in Lynn Lake he was an employee of Sherritt Gordon Mines as a heavy duty mechanic as well as a hoist man. While in Lynn Lake he was able to enjoy one of his great passions, fishing. This passion for being on the water with a fishing rod in his hands was something that he enjoyed his entire life.
In 1974 the family decided to pull up stakes and move west. This move brought them to Vernon British Columbia where Erik started Wille’s Auto Garage which he operated until his retirement in 1993.
At Erik’s request there will be no funeral service. There will be a private celebration of Erik’s life at a later date.
Special thanks to Dr. deBeer, Dr. Hardy, Dr. Marsh and the Vernon Jubilee Hospital nursing staff on 3 west and 2 west, for their care and compassion during his short stay at Vernon Jubilee Hospital.
In lieu of flowers the family asked that donations be made to the Cancer Society.
