MRS. ERIKA EMMA HULL, born in 1926 in Pfungstadt Germany, passed away peacefully March 9, 2003, in Vernon Jubilee Hospital aged 76 years. She was predeceased by her son Roy in 1979 and will be lovingly remembered to by her husband Donald of Falkland and her son Mark and his family in Cambridge Ontario. Erika moved to Vernon in 1994, from Bracebridge, Ontario where she had for many years worked as a Special Education teacher, having earned a B.A. degree from Laurentian University. She was a gifted teacher and well respected by her peers. Her other love was for animals, and she had had several horses over 30 years. Since coming to Vernon she owned Icelandic horses and was very fond of them. She also taught the family dog T-Rex to do many tricks, to do dog agility, and he also became qualified as a St. John Therapy Dog, whereby she would take him to seniors’ residences and nursing homes to brighten the lives of the residents. She was always willing to help others and share her wide knowledge of horse and dog behaviors. Erika had also been an outstanding Red Cross Swimming Instructor in Ontario and taught many adults to overcome a lifelong fear of the water and to swim. A celebration of life service will be held at the Falkland Community Church at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 13. Previous to that a private cremation service was held at the Mountain View Funeral Home in Armstrong. Those wishing to do so may make donations in memory to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital.
