With deep sadness we announce the passing of Ernest Ray Vliet at Armstrong on Monday, November 22, 2004. Aged 80 years. Ernie will be dearly missed by his wife Patricia; children Bob (Gerry), Lee (Paul) Dohms, Phil (Linda), Doug (Louise), Bev (Grant) Churchill and Brenda Routly; sisters Maxine (Ivor) Hayward and Esther (Walter) Palmer; brother-in-law Bill Oner; step-children Lucy, Judy, Bruce and Mandy; seventeen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents Garrett and Bertha, sister Ruth Oner, brother Lester, first wife Rita and infant son David. Born in Bassano, Ab, Ernie grew up on homesteads in Trinity Valley and Squaw Valley, until moving with his parent and sisters to Armstrong where he has resided since. During WWII, Ernie served as a R.C.A.F. mechanic at airfields across Canada. Upon returning home, Ernie kept up his strong work ethics while making time for family, friends, hunting and fishing. An exceptional mechanic, machinist, welder and millwright, Ernie got the job done in the shop, afield and at home. His abilities to “make things work” allowed him to become co-owner in several lumber mills and his expertise was sought out by industry through to his local farmer friends. Ernie was a rock who helped and harboured family and many friends throughout the entirety of his life. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 27, 2004, at First Baptist Church, 3185 Becker Street, Armstrong. Pastor Don Reeve officiating.
