Erwin Friedrich

November 28, 1931 - November 12, 2019
Mr. Erwin Friedrich, son of Emil and Wanda Friedrich, was born on November 28th, 1931 in Sarnowo, Poland. The family immigrated to Canada in 1948, joining other family and making Vernon, BC their home. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Edmonton, AB in search of work.
Erwin attended trade school in Calgary, AB and became a carpenter. He married Edeltraud on November 29th, 1958 in Edmonton, AB in the Lutheran faith. They moved to Vernon, BC to start their life together with their children, surrounded by Erwin's loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Erwin started his own successful construction company in the late 60's, building many custom homes in the Okanagan Valley as well as their family home. He was well-known and respected in the home building industry in the Okanagan for many years.
As a result of Erwin's pleasant personality, humour, honesty and friendliness, he was loved and admired by many. His influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew him. Erwin was called Home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, November 12th, 2019 at Heron Grove (Good Samaritan) after battling numerous health issues. He was preceded in death by his parents; Emil and Wanda Friedrich, his sister; Nelly Schubert and his brother; Helmut Friedrich, all from Edmonton, AB.
Erwin will be lovingly remembered by his wife; Edeltraud to whom he was married for over 60 years, his daughter; Melissa (Mircea) Oprean of Vernon, BC, his son; Elroy (Cheryl) Friedrich of Enderby, BC, his two loving grandchildren; Fred Friedrich of Edmonton, AB and Amanda Merrick of Calgary, AB, his brother; Oswald Friedrich of Chicago, Illinois along with numerous devoted cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Cremation preceded a Celebration of Erwin's Life which will be held at Bethel Funeral Chapel on Saturday, November 23rd, 2019 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Craig Tufts officiating. A Reception will follow in the Bethel Tea Room. The family's greatest respect, admiration and our humblest thanks go to his doctors and the staff at Heron Grove for making Erwin's stay as comfortable as possible.
As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Erwin to St. John's Lutheran Church, the Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of your choice.
