Evelyn Kusch

It is with regret and sadness that we announce the passing of Evelyn Kusch on May 21, 2007 in the Vernon Jubilee Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband Tony in 1985; and by her brothers Ralph, Harold and Russell as well as a sister Jessie and a son-in-law Gary. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt – who cherished her immediate and extended family and treasured visits with them. She is lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her 3 children Marie (Val) Pilgrim, Joan Kyle, and Glenn (Edye) Kusch; as well as her 5 grandchildren Denise, Beverly, Tracy, Marty, and Tanya and 9 great grandchildren Bradley, Ryan, Tyler, Hayley, Brandon, Rae-Lynne, Tristan, Chace and Logan; and her sisters Edith and Amy (Clarence). Other extended family Wendy (Dave), Dawn (Keith and her daughters Shaylin & Amber).Evelyn was born at home in Swanson Saskatchewan in 1917 where she was the 4th child of a family of 7. She attended a one-room country school and completed grades 11 and 12 in a school 5 miles from home, which she drove her horse to each day. She graduated as an RN from St Pauls School of Nursing in Saskatoon in 1942 and worked in small communities in Sask including Scott where she met and married Tony. They raised their family in Scott, later moving to Ft Vermillion then Beaverlodge Alta. They retired to Rutland BC where Evelyn remained until 2004 when she relocated to Coldstream Meadows in Vernon to be near her family. She was a member of the Rutland United Church and the OORP. She enjoyed sports, especially softball and curling. In later years she did a lot of sewing, quilting, knitting and volunteer work. She loved to play cards. Evelyn also enjoyed travel and was proud to have visited every Canadian province and territory; many of the United States, Scotland, New Zealand, Hawaii and Mexico.A Service of Remembrance will be held at Rutland United Church, 1370 Rutland Road on Saturday, May 26th, 2007 at 2:30 pm.. Evelyn was happy to support several charities including the Canadian Red Cross, Lupus Foundation, Crohn and Colitis Foundation of Canada, the BCSPCA, the ALS Society of Canada, BC Childrens Hospital and the MS Society of Canada. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to donate may send donations to any of these charities in her memory.
