Evelyn Nitchie

Evelyn Isobel Nitchie passed away peacefully on December

5, 2008, at Polson Multi-Level Extended Care at the age

of 84 years. She was born in Lemburg, Sk., on July 12,

1924 to her parents, Fred and Barbara Bieber.

Evelyn came to Armstrong with her parents and fi ve

brothers and sisters in 1938, where they homesteaded

in the Stepney area of Armstrong. In her late teens she

worked in Vernon at the National Café and also at the

Armstrong Hotel. It was at a country dance in Armstrong

that she met Stan Nitchie. In 1943 they were married and

eventually settled in Armstrong where they happily raised three boys.

Evelyn was a wonderful cook, housekeeper and seamstress. She loved gardening, bowling,

needlework, quilting, going for long walks, watching her grandsons play lacrosse and

travelling, but most of all she was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister

and friend.

Evelyn will be remembered always by her loving family: sons Bob (Marylee), Terry (Sue)

and Brian (Christine) all of Armstrong; grandchildren Michael (Marnie), Alisa, Vince

(Barb), David (Chelsey), Doug, Erica, Ryan (Tami), Kody (Amanda), Ray, Sarah, Justin,

Teresa (Darren) and Brian; thirteen great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Also

survived by her loving siblings Willard (Eileen) Bieber of Victoria, Jack (Betty) Bieber of

Penticton, Bets Tasko of Kamloops and sister-in-law Noelle Bieber of Armstrong. She

was predeceased by her husband Stan, brother Clarence Beiber, sister Win Nitchie, and

brothers-in-law Hank and Fred Nitchie, Jim Tasko and sister-in-law Lynn Nitchie.

The family of Evelyn Nitchie would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff

of Polson Multi-Level Extended Care where she spent the last several years of her life.

She loved all of the staff dearly and their excellent care did much to enhance her quality

of life. A Celebration of Life will be held 1:00 p.m., December 11, 2008, at Mountain

View Chapel, Armstrong. Louise Burton offi ciating. Interment in family plot of Armstrong

Spallumcheen Cemetery. In lieu of fl owers donations in memory of Evelyn may be made

to the Canadian Diabetic Association. Arrangements in the care of Personal Alternative
