Fern Makarenko

Fern passed away peacefully in Vernon Hospice House on December 31, 2016.

Born – Carol Fern Lybarger on August 21, 1926.

Married in Vancouver, BC to Steven Makarenko on August 21, 1948.

Leaving behind one husband, 7 children, 17 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.

Upon returning from the war, Steve met Fern in Cranbrook where she operated a beauty salon. Upon their marriage, they eventually moved to Prince George where a nursery of 7 children were born within 10 years. There she also worked for the Post Office, Forestry Service, and School Board driving a school bus. Leisure time was spent camping with family, relaxing at lakeshore cottage, and square dancing.

From there they moved to Vernon. Her full life continued with cottage life, book writing, crafting, wood carving, and building the Mystic Trail at Mabel Lake. In her final years, summers were spent at their beloved cottage on Okanagan Lake and this is where her celebration of life will be held with family and friends this summer.
