Flinda Mary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Flinda Mary Saunders who lost her brief battle with a malignant brain tumor on September 1st, 2011.

Flinda is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Frank; her children Christopher and Jennifer, and her younger brother, Bill.

Flinda was a devoted wife and mother and was the number one fan for her kids and husband. She always put them first and was so very proud of her family.

After growing up in Peterborough, Flinda moved to Toronto and began a secretarial career at the Globe and Mail. It was in Toronto at the Globe and Mail that she met and fell in love with Frank, married and started a family.

Flinda settled in Vernon with her family in 1978. She spent many years working for the Vernon Irrigation District, followed by the Regional District, retiring in 2001.

Flinda revelled in her retirement years. She was often heard to say, “I don’t know how I ever had time to work”. Her retirement was joyfully spent volunteering for many organizations including the Vernon Art Gallery and the Schubert Center, of which she served on the board for many years. She was happily involved in two Red Hat Chapters; the Silver Star Chapter of which she was a founding member, and the Schubert Red Hat Chapter. She fondly looked forward to her many social engagements with her Red Hatters, her book club, Probus, Schubert Center, bridge nights, as well as her annual trips with her husband to Victoria and Portland, Oregon to visit her children.

Through her charm, and joie de vivre, Flinda touched many lives. Please join us in a celebration of her life. A Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, September 19th at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church on Middleton Drive at 1:00 pm, with a reception to follow in the Schubert Center at 3 pm.

Your condolences will be approved within one business day. You will need a valid Facebook account. Please email us if you have any questions.
