FLORENCE McFARLAND

McFarland, Florence Anne Victoria

(nee Woiden)

It is with heavy hearts for the family to announce the passing of Florence on December 5th, 2013 with her husband Ken of 68 years at her side. Florence was born August 20, 1925 on the family farm near Young, SK. Flo attended Favourite Strawberry and Watrous schools. While working in Watrous, Flo met and married the love of her life on a very rainy June day, 1945. Because haying was delayed on their farm near Drake, SK the honeymoon to Niagara Falls also got delayed. Flo worked hard as most prairie farm wives but found time to raise a family, was active with United Church aux. ladies, Eastern Star, painting and her “green” thumb in gardening. Known for their hospitality, many family gatherings were celebrated on the farm and later in their Coldstream residence.

Flo and Ken moved to Coldstream, BC in 1973 where mom finally got her new home. Along with the home came a large vegetable and flower garden second to none.

Flo’s pride and joy was her family and probably more so, her grandchildren and three great grand kids.

Flo’s great grand daughter Olivia could never pronounce great grandma and caller her “Grandmoose”, a name we all called her until this day.

Florence and Ken moved into Carrington Place in Vernon in 2010 where mom always said “It’s like living at a hotel; no cleaning or cooking”. Shortly after she became ill and required complex care and relocated to Heron Grove.

Florence leaves to mourn her passing: Ken; sons: Dennis (Pat) of Coldstream, Darcy (Margaret) of Enderby; grandchildren: Michelle/Tom Harrison; great grand children: Olivia and Grant of Ottawa, Jacqueline (Jon), and great grandson Josh Delaney of Vernon, grand daughter: Anji Wiens of Red Deer, and Teri Waters of Stoney Creek, Ontario; brother: Ches (Carol) Woiden; sister: Ruby Yarish; sister-in-law: Thelma Woiden; and many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her daughter Bev in 2010; brother Leonard and sister Margaret Rosenburger.

A Celebration of Life for Florence will be announced at a later and warmer date.

A special thank you to the many caring and compassionate staff at Heron Grove and Dr. DeBeers.

Those wishing to do so may make a donation in Florence’s name to Gizeh Shriner’s Transportation (Suite 1250 – 1500 West Georgia Street, Vancouver, BC, V6G 2Z6).

“Grandmoose rest in eternal peace. We’ll cherish your memories forever”
