Betty was born on August 6, 1915 in Asquith, SK and passed away peacefully on December 3, 2014 in Armstrong, BC at the age of 99 years. She had a full and active life.
She grew up on a farm near Battleford, SK and attended school in the Cleveland District and later at the Battleford Collegiate. In August 1940 she was married at Battleford, SK to Hugh Cameron Menzies. Cameron joined the Royal Canadian Navy the following year and was sent overseas. After the war they moved to Vancouver, then Richmond, where they raised their two sons. Her family was her true love in life. She enjoyed gardening, reading, travelling, and was very active in the Brighouse United Church. She also worked part time for many years as a telephone operator for BC Tel. At the passing of her husband in 1994, she moved to Armstrong to be near her son Hugh and his family. While in Armstrong, she made many friends and became involved in the Armstrong Presbyterian Church.
She was predeceased by her parents, brother Clifford, and her husband Cameron. She is lovingly remembered by her sons: Bill (Marion) of Winnipeg, MB, Hugh (Maureen) of Armstrong, BC; grandchildren: Michelle, Christine (David), Shannon (Peter), Ryan (Nicole); and great grandchildren: Mykayla, Ashton, Maya, Rhys, Jessica, Veda, and Finn. The family would like to thank the staff at Pleasant Valley Manor in Armstrong for the amazing care and attention they provided during the past year.
The family would like to give special thanks to Esther Webb and Chris Hartwig of Abbeyfield in Armstrong, BC who provide a warm and loving home environment at Abbeyfield. Betty was a resident of Abbeyfield and always thought of Esther as her Angel.
