FRANCES CLARKE SOMERVILLE, 74; passed peacefully at Vernon Hospice House in Vernon, BC, on March 12, 2004 after a lengthy battle with cardio-pulmonary disease. Frances leaves behind her loving husband Robert of Vernon, son Douglas of Nova Scotia, daughter Leslie of Seattle, Washington, and two wonderful grandchildren; Campbell and Colin of Nova Scotia. Frances came from Scotland to be married to Robert in Regina, on Oct. 1st, 1949. They lived variously, where Bob’s job took him, to Saskatoon, Edmonton Alta. and Vancouver BC, while raising their son and daughter. Though a stay-at-home mother, Frances always found time to volunteer in whatever capacity she could to help those in need. Frances and Bob passed their final working years in Seatlle Wa. before retiring back to BC. They lived in Langley and finally, Vernon where they built a new home to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere on Lake Okanagan during the summers and spent many winters in Palm Springs. Although her final years were compromised by her illness, Frances never lost her courage and her humour and was happiest with her children and grandchildren nearby whenever possible. She will be dearly missed by the many friends and acquaintances she made through the years, and most especially by her husband of 55 years, Bob, and by her children Douglas and Leslie, grandchildren Campbell and Colin and by her many relatives in Canada, the USA and Scotland. Our most heartfelt gratitude goes out to the wonderful staff and volunteers of Hospice House whose compassionate dedication created such a loving, safe environment during Frances final journey. No flowers please. Donations to Vernon Hospice House, 3506-27th Ave.Vernon, B.C. V1T 1S4 would be gratefully appreciated. A “Celebration of Life” ceremony will be held at a later date.
