Francis Henry (Frank)
Mr. Francis Henry McDougall passed away peacefully at Vernon and District Hospice House on Friday, November 16th, 2007 at the age of 94 years. He was a long term resident of the Victorian Retirement Residence. Frank was born in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan and educated in Weyburn, Saskatchewan. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served as a lieutenant-colonel. He saw action with the Loyal Edmonton Regiment in Italy, Belgium, Germany and Holland and received a Distinguished Service Order (DSO) for his outstanding service. After the war, he became Commanding Officer of the South Saskatchewan Regiment (Militia) and a hospital administrator in Weyburn and Moose Jaw. He was predeceased by his sister, Catherine in 1951, his wife, Viola in 1983 and his son, Ronald in 2000. He will be lovingly remembered by his son Robert and daughter-in-law, Evalynne of Coldstream, B.C. He is survived by six grandchildren, Greg (Kim), Colin (Victoria), Nona (Ted) Deena, Jeri (Kelly), Zoe (Jim) and nine great-granddaughters. A memorial service celebrating Frank’s life will be held on Thursday, November 22nd, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Pleasant Valley Funeral Home with Reverend Ed Millin officiating. A reception will follow in the Pleasant Valley Tea Room. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the McMurtry-Baerg Cancer Clinic, 2101-32nd Street, Vernon, B.C., V1T 5L2 or to Vernon & District Hospice House Society, 3506-27th Avenue, Vernon, B.C. V1T 1S4. The family would like to thank Dr. Latham, the staff of Vernon Jubilee Hospital and the staff and volunteers of Hospice House for their loving, thoughtful care of Dad, Grandpa and Great-Grandpa.
