Francis Douglas Scott
1925 – 2008
Doug MacKay passed away peacefully at Hospice House in Vernon on Monday,
September 8th, 2008 at the age of 83 years.
Born in Vernon August 29th, 1925, Doug enjoyed a lifetime on Kalamalka Lake;
fifi shing, waterskiing and boating with his friends and family. He was also an avid
skier at Silver Star.
Doug did all of his schooling in Vernon and upon graduating from high school he
enlisted and served in the air force until WWII ended.
After graduating from UBC in 1952, Doug co-founded MacKay’s Prescriptions Ltd.
in 1953 with his father, Francis, and served the community for thirty-three years
as a pharmacist. He loved the fellowship of many lodges as well as acted on the
board of directors at Far West and NOCLS.
He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 57 years,
Dorothy, and his three daughters: Debbie (Werner) Durst of Edmonton, Alberta,
Janis (Rob) Glenesk of Vernon and Sandy MacKay (Brian Johnston) of Cobble Hill,
B.C., fifi ve grandchildren: Tyson and Shannon Durst of Edmonton, Alberta, Shannon
(Helen) Glenesk of Vernon, MacKenzie and Taylor Johnston of Cobble Hill; sister,
Gloria Harvey, formerly of Ladysmith and currently of Vernon; two nieces, Barb
(Gary) Cooper and BJ Harvey as well as extended family and friends.
The family will hold a memorial service on Thursday, September 18th, 2008 at 2:00
p.m. in the chapel of Pleasant Valley Funeral Home. A tea reception will follow in
the Pleasant Valley Tea Room.
