FRANK BALSILLIE

FRANK BALSILLIE

Frank Harold Balsillie

June 2, 1931 – August 6, 2012.

With deep sadness, we share that Frank Balsillie passed away on August 6, 2012 at North Okanagan Hospice House in Vernon BC at the age of 81 after an unforgiving bout with pancreatic cancer.

Frank was born in Fort Resolution, NWT, and moved with his family as a teen to Yellowknife. He enjoyed a successful career as a union welder/pipe-fitter, working in the Giant Yellowknife Gold Mine, on the D.E.W. Line, and in pulp & paper mills and oil & gas refineries across the country, advancing from journeyman to foreman, supervisor and superintendent. Frank enjoyed travel and visited many corners of the world, in later years spending winters in Mexico and Arizona. Above all, he loved country music and a good spin on the dance floor.

We will forever remember Frank’s devotion to family and dedication to healthy living. His hospitality and congeniality shone through the instant smile that lit up his face to welcome you, always being the first to lend a hand, and his famous Annual Country Music Party and Barbecue. Most of all, Frank’s incredible courage, silent strength and faith were beyond measure in the face of the cruelest cancer diagnosis of all – the one that comes too late to be helped.

Frank is predeceased by his parents, John and Margaret Balsillie, and siblings, Doris Balsillie, Eva McLeod, Darlene Clunie, and Kenneth Balsillie and brother-in-law, Fred Tippie. Frank is survived by his partner, Verna McFarland, his children, Gail and Mark Balsillie, and his siblings, Mary (Max) Andersen, Patrick Balsillie, Tom (Sheila) Balsillie, Bridget Tippie, John (Mary Anne) Balsillie, and Bob (Linda) Balsillie.

Sincere gratitude to hospice staff for their compassionate care, and for the love, support and prayers of family and friends through this difficult time.

“Dad (Frank), with the dearest love and sweetest remembrances,

we hold you in our hearts until we join you in heaven.”
