December 6, 1923 – April 14, 2017

Freda passed away peacefully at her home in Canterbury Court, Vernon, BC at the age of 93. She was predeceased by her husband Harold and her daughter Laurie. She is survived by her daughter Lynn, her son Ken (Michele) and her two granddaughters, Shannon and Jennifer (Blair) Montguire.

Freda was passionate about life and in particular, playing duplicate bridge which she enjoyed and thrived upon right up until her passing. She was a determined character as exemplified by her response to her physician’s prognosis in the 1950’s that she would never walk again after being paralyzed on her left side during the polio epidemic of that time. Her reply was “Oh yes I will!” She then, over a period of months, recovered the ability to walk without aid and then proceeded, with her physiotherapist, to found and lead a physical therapy group of persons recovering from the devastation of polio. That group toured the province of Saskatchewan demonstrating the physical activities that could be regained through rigorous physical activity, thereby giving inspiration and hope to other polio patients.

Freda was an intensely private person. In honouring her wishes, cremation has occurred and there will be no services or gatherings with respect to her passing.
