Frederick Roy Anthony Turner

March 2, 1929 – July 31, 2010

With heartfelt sadness we announce the sudden passing of Fred Turner at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at the age of 81. His passing was due to a COPD-related illness cause by asbestosis and emphysema.

Fred was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, moved to BC as a youngster, did a stint in the Navy, logged at the coast, then became a draftsman and supervisor on marble construction. Some of Fred’s jobs in marble were the Provincial Museum and Archives in Edmonton, the Vancouver Post Office and Brentwood Centre in Burnaby. After moving to Vernon, BC in 1972 he and his wife Nettie owned and operated Select Construction Tile & Stone on Kal Lake Road for several years before retiring.

Fred will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 49 years, Nettie; daughters Sharryle, Jan and Shauna; son Gary; sister Kay (Mike); nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his son Tom, parents Tony and Gladys, sister Lois and brothers Wally and Garry.

Celebration of life will be held at the Halina Centre on Friday, August 6 at 2:00 pm. Donations to the BC Lung Association would be greatly appreciated.
