Frederick Lawrence “Rick” Wynne

Rick has gone off exploring again and this time he’s all on his own going into the world beyond. He paused long enough to permit his family to say their farewells. Then he left from Vernon Friday, February 6th, 2015 on this last journey at age 72.

Rick was an intelligent person, always at or near the head of his class throughout school in Berwyn, AB. Off in U of A Edmonton he earned his B.Sc. in Geology and later Professional Engineer status. He didn’t have to search far for his first wife, Barbara Staples, the girl across the street in Berwyn. His exploration for minerals took them to live in the far north of BC, Trail, Highland Valley, Alamos and Hermosillo, Sonora Mexico, and Armstrong. He explored in far-flung places in NWT, Peru, Indonesia, Spain, Sardinia, and Morocco.

Like his father, Dr. Frederick Wynne, Rick recognized what he was seeing, could analyze the situation and knew how to proceed. This way he found successful mines. He was an unassuming, helpful, and kind person like his mother, Edith Patmore Wynne, and a realistic man. His trust in himself made him independent and strong, forging into new territory, trekking the barren lands, designing buildings, speaking a foreign language or starting up new companies.

When the bottom went out of the BC mining business, major bumps in his journey saw him leave the Okanagan. With his second wife, Sheryl nee: McLennan, searching took him to Mexico again. That country and friends there were special to him.

Loved ones left behind as he embarked on his final journey are his wife, Sheryl, and her family: her father Allan McLennan; her brothers Ian, and Rod; her sister Glenne Schlitter; her brother-in-law Wayne Richardson (Susan ) and family Kyle, Lee and Clark.

In addition to Rick’s son Rico (Megan) with grandsons Scott and Theodore of Vancouver, and son Christopher plus their mother, Barbara Wynne, in Armstrong, those remaining are his brother Garrett Wynne (Faye Perry, children Adam and Sara) Salmon Arm; his sister Catherine (Willy Muller) in Switzerland and their children Annie (Christian Gigon, daughter Aurelie) and Juliette Muller; his sister-in-law Jane Wynne (Mike Fecteau) and her children Kelly and Leslie Wynne; his former in-laws, nieces and nephews of the Eastman, Robson and Staples families, and his Godchild, Megan Ciurysek.

Rick’s youngest brother, Alan, had gone on ahead, and we hope they have met and joined up with Rick’s good friend, Steve.

“We’ll meet again, don’t know where, don’t know when

But I know we’ll meet again some sunny day.”
