1947-2020 ~ Gary passed away August 12th, 2020 while sleeping at his home in Vernon. Gary was born in Abbotsford and spent his early years on a Dairy Farm in Matsqui.
He loved the life style and eagerly helped his dad and hired hand with the chores, doing whatever he could. From very young he loved outdoor activities, especially shooting, fishing, hiking, and riding his beautiful horse. Gary frequently rode in local parades wearing his full western outfit.
During his early years he even played the piano at school.
Gary was an excellent student and was always at or near the top of his class. In grade 11 he wrote a short essay which got published in the Vancouver Sun newspaper.
He graduated from U.B.C. and taught high school in Richmond for 10 years. The family then decided to move to Salt Spring Island where they set up a highly successful Dental Clinic operated by his wife who had recently received a medical degree in Dentistry.
Gary managed the clinic for the next 30 years. The family had two children. Their daughter is a veterinarian and their son, who received an engineering degree from U.B.C. is presently earning an advanced architectural degree in Europe.
Gary retired in 2012 and moved to Vernon where he quickly had a circle of close friends. He spent his retirement years taking camping trips with his truck and camper, fishing and hiking.
Early in his retirement he gathered six friends from high school and set up a reunion of people who had been estranged for 40 years. He fittingly called everyone "The Magnificent Seven". We have been in contact ever since.
He is remembered by many friends and business acquaintances and will always have a special place in our hearts.
