May 25, 1932 - January 5, 2019
It is with great respect and sadness we announce the passing of Genie on January 5, 2019. Genie was born in Grande Prairie (Webster), AB and was educated in Raymond and Calgary, followed by a 2-year business course in Mount Royal College. She was always expanding her love and talent in the "World of Arts". Genie found her forte as she became an icon in oil painting. As her talent increased with more experience and exposure through juried shows in Calgary, AB and BC. Her "best of show awards". Genie's interest soared to heights due to the Calgary Stampede Art Auction and Genie's talent on exhibits in galleries in AB and BC. She then excelled in the mediums of landscape florals, oils, watercolors and pen and ink. Genie's talents advanced to the sports world where she excelled in golfing and skiing.

As a testimonial, is Genie's cover page on Silver Stars 1994 Visitors Guide. She then went to Quebec as a part of BC's team in ice sculptures. She took over as an art instructor at the Vernon Arts Centre before her illness. Throughout her illness, Genie carried on her interest and activity in painting, golfing, skiing and curling even though she was limited due to body injuries. The corner stones of Genie's life were Gail Singleton who worked and lived with Genie and inspired her to be the best in the arts world, as well as Ken, who was always there throughout Genie's good and bad times. As well as Barbe and Derek Gorecki. Barbe is the daughter that Genie always loved and wanted. Derek was a great help at any time of need. Barbe and Derek visited Genie faithfully the past two years as Genie was in the hospital as well as Creekside Landing.

Family was very close to Genie with Mom and Dad #1. Also mourning the loss of Genie and her great sense of humor is her sister Mary (Rick), brother Ted (Virgie), sister-in-law Ann and numerous nieces and nephews. Genie is predeceased by her parents, brother Walter and sister Stella. Many thanks to the"Treasured Friend" Gail who was very close and Ken was with Genie every step of the journey.

Thank you to the caring staff at Creekside including Vicki and Colleen, the nurses, care-aides and doctors Smit and Urbanski. There will be no service, but if you wish to donate in memory of Genie please donate to the Vernon SPCA or Alzheimer's Society.

Genie was not only talented, but remarkably determined and rest assured that she used all of her will power to fight life's biggest battle. She will be loved and missed by all.
