Geoffrey Standen

April 4, 1925 – July 6, 2022
The following was written by Geoffrey’s two daughters, Frances and Gillian who live in England.
Geoffrey passed away peacefully at Vernon Jubilee Hospital, aged 97 years. He was the beloved husband of the late Kathleen Standen and devoted father to daughters Frances, Carolyn and Gillian, also sons-in-law, Barry and Chris.
Geoffrey was born and raised in West Sussex, England and as a teenager helped in his aunt’s bakery earning him the nickname “bunny”. He served in the British Army during WW2 seeing action in Italy and Greece. He and our mother emigrated to Vernon, B.C. Canada in 1987 to join our sister Carolyn and her husband Barry. He enjoyed a long and happy retirement hiking and skiing. A keen member of the Vernon Outdoors Club, he regularly planned and led many of the hikes. Many birthdays were celebrated on the hills and trails. He also enjoyed cross-country skiing and snow shoeing. In later years he was not so mobile, but was able to stay in his own home with help from Barry and many wonderful friends. Geoffrey enjoyed over 30 years of happy retirement in Vernon.
Our thanks to all at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital, care workers and friends who helped so much these past few months.
