On July 11/03 George passed away peacefully with his family by his side. He will be forever missed by his wife Lucy, son Richard, daughter Wendy (Gary), Danny (Kathy), Sandra, Susan (Mike). George has 13 grandchildren Jason, Chris, Brent, Aaron, Kalais, Chelsey, Nicole, Sarah, Justin, Jolena, Laura, Gloria, Hailey, and five great grandchildren Magen, Jenna, Austin, Autumn, Kaeden. George was born in Vancouver on March 16, 1925 and grew up in the Kitsilano area. George served with the Seaforth Highlanders in World War Two. When the war ended George returned to Vancouver to marry Lucy Cameron and raise his five children. George was a proud member for 36 years of the ILWU. For twenty of those years George was a longshore foreman. George and Lucy retired to Vernon in 1987. He truly enjoyed his retired years, George would often be seen walking in the Vernon area. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and talking about his many memories of the Vancouver waterfront. George courageously battled a lifetime of heart disease. The family would like to thank Dr. Bryce Remington and his wife, Kathy, and Dr. Paul Smylie for the care he received for many years. We would also like to thank Dr. Yacyshyn and the ICU nurses for the care and compassion our family received on the evening of July 11, 2003. No service by George’s request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the B.C. Heart & Stroke Foundation.
