George was predeceased by his parents Nikolaus and Barbara Deis, six brothers John, Sebastian, Leo Mathew, Romauld, Pius and four sisters, Anne, Josephine, Seraphine and Mary Agatha, his grandson Jeremiah George Mitchell. George was born on July 4, 1927 in Liebental, Saskatchewan. He met and married Helen (Dresser) in Kelowna, July 22, 1950 and in 1959 moved to Lumby. He worked for the local sawmills and then for the school board as a custodian until his retirement. He loved playing crib and liked nothing better than when family or friends would have a game with him. He very much enjoyed the fun and fellowship of his friends at the OAP Hall. He walked whenever he was able with “Buffy”, his granddaughter’s golden retriever and Buffy would keep an eye on him. George always believed in the importance of a good education, he was only able to go to school till grade 10 and then he went to work off the family farm. He wanted his children and grandchildren to understand how important school was and often he and Helen would have a little something for a good report, expecially when the granddaughters came by to show them their report cards. There will be a Memorial Mass on Friday, February 14 at 10 am at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lumby. There will be a tea to follow at the Catholic Hall. In lieu of flowers, please give to the school or charity of your choice. Arrangements by the Vernon Funeral Home.
