George Edward Major was born on November 21st, 1927 in Vernon, B.C. and passed away peacefully on February 27th, 2010 in Vernon, B.C. at the age of 82 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Jean, to whom he was married for 55 years, two sons; Gary (Diana) Major and Brian (Lisa) Major, one daughter; Barb (Dennis) Desjarlais, eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one step-great-grandchild, two brothers; Melvin (Linda) Major and Harold (Lola) Major as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. George was preceded in death by his parents; John and Sadie Major, three brothers, one sister and one grandson.
George was very active in the community of Lumby for many years and was a volunteer fire firefighter at the Lumby Fire Department for 36 years. He loved curling and playing golf in his spare time and especially enjoyed swimming with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also spent a lot of time at local hockey rinks cheering on his grandchildren at their hockey games.
A Funeral Service will be held at Bethel Funeral Chapel on Saturday, March 6th, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. with Mr. Brian Jackson officiating. A Reception will follow in the Tea Room at Bethel Funeral Chapel after which interment will take place in the Lumby Cemetery.
