February 6, 1941 - April 19, 2020
The family is saddened to announce the passing of George Goll on April 19th, 2020 in the Kelowna General Hospital at the age of 79 years, after a brief illness.
George was born on February 6th, 1941 in Szczawin, Poland to Lydia and Gustav Goll. The youngest of four children, they immigrated to Canada in 1952 to begin their new life after the war. They lived in Taber, Alberta for two years before coming to Vernon, B.C. where they made their home.
George began apprenticing as a mechanic at the age of 15 and worked till his late twenties when he changed his profession to carpentry and began the career he loved. George was always there to help anyone who needed it. He enjoyed working out of town with the guys and anyone who got the privilege of working with George, have many great stories to share.
In 1972, George met the love of his life Irene, they were married on August 9th, 1975 and were happily married for 38 years. George adopted Irene's three children, Joyce, Terry and Cindy, loving them as his own. In 1978, they had their daughter Laurie, to complete their family. George loved to dance and have fun - he and Irene were often the first couple on the dance floor to get everyone else going. All of us would tease Dad that he would go so fast your feet barely touched the floor but we loved every dance we had with him.
George was a hard working man who enjoyed the simple things in life, his family, friends and a good shot of rye. George had a great sense of humor and a smile that would make his eyes sparkle. He was a man of many talents and somehow could build or fix almost everything. Even when he had to retire at the age of 77 years from construction, he never let that slow him down. George was always on the go fixing something that broke or building projects for friends and family. For the past 18 years, he worked for Jayco Construction where Jim, Katherine and their family, adopted Dad/Opa as one of their own. His talent, strength of character and loving support will be greatly missed by everyone he met and he will be forever in our hearts.
George will be lovingly remembered by his four children, Joyce, Terry, Cindy (Darren) and Laurie (Rick); six grandchildren, Stephanie, Amanda, Daniel, Nathan, Zac and Taija; two brothers, Gene (Janice) and Waldemar (Elfreida); one sister, Loni (Ralph); and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene; his parents, Gustav and Lydia; and one grandson, Scott.
Cremation preceded a private family Graveside Service which will be held on Thursday, May 7th, 2020 at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery with Pastor Craig Tufts and Joel Haberstock of St. John's Lutheran Church officiating. A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date so family and friends can get together and share their memories of George.
As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of George to the North Okanagan Hospice Society, 3506-27th Avenue, Vernon, B.C. V1T 1S4 or the Canadian Cancer Society, #102-1433 St. Paul Street, Kelowna, B.C. V1Y 2E4.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Gilhooly, Dr. Dominelli, the many specialists and staff at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital and Kelowna General Hospital for all the caring and compassionate care George and the family received during this difficult time.
