GILBERT ANDREW CAMPBELL
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Gilbert Andrew Campbell at Mabel Lake on January 24, 2011 at the age of 67 years. He touched the hearts of many and will be sorely missed. A permanent resident of Mabel Lake for 29 years, our “Jack of all Trades” was always dependable and available to lend a helping hand. As the unofficial mayor and caretaker of the Westside, Gil was frequently seen on his signature barge travelling up and down the shoreline, fishing in the salmon hole, or at the Rivermouth waiting for his latest fare. The absence of his distinctive shout to the shore and the rumble of the quad up and down the back path will leave a noticeable silence. Gil recently found peace with a new canine companion. King, a 3-month old husky shepherd puppy, that kept him busy and had already made him buy a new pair of slippers! King has found a new home with Gil’s daughter Gwen.
He was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Laura Campbell, as well as wife Dorothy Ruth LeClair and grandson Spenser Borlase.
Gil is survived and sorely missed by his children John Campbell (Jennifer), Gwen Thompson (Ira), Marie Daumler (Rob), Deborah-Lee Coombes, and Peter Borlase (Heather). Gil’s void will also be felt by his brothers Jack (Blanche) and Gordon (Norma) and their families.
Papa/Grandpa Gil will also be missed by his grandchildren: Lauren and Nicole, Benny, Billie and Eve, Meghan-Rose and Brandon, Hunter and Fraser John.
A memorial service will be held at the Enderby Drill Hall on Sunday February 6, 2011 at 3pm. A Celebration of Gil’s life will be held during the summer at Mable Lake. Date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
