It is with sad hearts that we, Gladys Redman’s family, announce that she passed away at North Okanagan Hospice House on Sunday, June 26th, 2016 at the age of 93 years.

Gladys will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Rebecca Urban and Monica Shillingford; her grandchildren, who were the apples of her eye and whose love was unconditional: Lisa (Roy Lucas) Urban, Jordan (Jennifer) and Jamie Shillingford; her great-granddaughter, Lauren Shillingford; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, husband Frank in 1991; seven sisters, Florence, Gertie, Jill, Janie, Biddy, Joan and Gladys’s unnamed twin who died at birth; six brothers, Elden, Jack, Sonny, David, Arthur and Don.

Mom was born in Nelson, B.C. on February 22nd, 1923, one of fourteen children born to Albert Ernest and Mabel Anne Wigg. After moving to Vernon in 1941, one of Mother’s first jobs was hand tinting many renowned photographs of the Okanagan Valley taken by well known photographer of the time, George A. Meeres. The Box Office at the Vernon Civic Arena was like a second home to Mom where she was kept busy selling tickets and spinning the tunes for skating. She also worked in the accounting departments at NOCA Dairy and the Vernon Fruit Union until her retirement in 1981. Mom spent many happy hours knitting and crocheting. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Foster Chapter #46 and the St. Hilda’s Guild at All Saints Anglican Church. She was renowned for her Armstrong IPE award winning butter tarts and pies; a family get together was not complete without them. Her ready smile, quick wit and sense of humour shone through until the very end.

“What a trooper, Mom!

We all miss you so much but each of us will move forward with countless wonderful memories and principles that you instilled in us. These will help guide us through life’s journey. You will always be our anchor.”

Cremation preceded a Celebration Of Gladys’s Life which will be held at All Saints Anglican Church on Friday, July 15th, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Canon Chris Harwood-Jones officiating.

As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Gladys to the North Okanagan Hospice Society, 3506 - 27th Avenue, Vernon, B.C. V1T 1S4 or to the charity of their choice.

Many thanks to Dr. Dave Arnold as well as the loving, patient and devoted staff at North Okanagan Hospice for the wonderful care you gave to our Mother. We will be forever grateful.
