Peter, Gladys (nee McLean)
Gladys passed away peacefully at the Vernon
Extended Care unit on Saturday, May 6, 2006. She was born at Reston, Manitoba, on April 14, 1922 and is predeceased by her husband Al Peter, her parents James Ross and Minnie Ann McLean, and her brothers Donald Murdock, Ross William and Goldwyn. She is survived by her twin brother Charles (Ruth) of Victoria, BC, her sister Mary (George) Fraser of Simcoe, Ontario, and by nieces and nephews – especially her beloved niece Cathryn McLean of Kelowna, BC.
Gladys started school in a one-room rural school and then went on to Reston Manitoba for grade twelve. After taking teacher training she taught in a number of rural schools throughout Manitoba. She later went on to take a Home Economics degree at the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, then taught Home Economics in Vancouver, Hope and Salmon Arm in BC, and later in England. Gladys had a close group of friends, enjoyed bridge, traveling around the world and especially enjoyed visits and reunions with the extended McLean family throughout the years.
A Celebration of Life tea will be held at Allan and Lynda Pattison’s home at 1294 Galiano Road, in Vernon, BC on May 17 at 2:30 pm. For rides or directions phone Cathryn McLean at (250) 801-5496.
Gladys wished her ashes to be interred in the family plot at Reston, Manitoba. A graveside service will be conducted there later. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Vernon Salvation Army, Canadian Red Cross or the BC Wildlife Federation.
