August 10, 2021
It is with heavy hearts the family of Glenn Hartland announce his sudden passing on August 10, 2021. Glenn was born in Merritt, B.C. in 1950. He spent much of his childhood and teens residing in the beautiful mountains near Salmo B.C. The family lived in the mining community of Emerald City. Living on the mountain gave Glenn a deep love for the outdoors and he carried this love for nature and the outdoors all of life. He enjoyed feeding the birds and had a passion for gardening. He worked underground at the mine in his early adult years. Glenn attended college to become a journeyman carpenter and spent the rest of his working life in the construction business. He built many homes and worked on commercial sites and traveled over British Columbia on many projects. He was exceptional in his ability to build and fix just about anything. He took great pride in his carpentry work and was a perfectionist. Glenn was most content when he was in his home and it was the place he most loved to spend time. He thought Vernon was the most beautiful place on earth. Prior to residing in Vernon, he lived and worked in Creston and then Merritt. He was a quiet man that enjoyed his solitude, often puttering in his garage or garden for hours. His sons, Geoff and Brent, from his first marriage were his pride and joy. He will be missed by them very much, as well as his grandchildren, Curtis, Rachel, George and Theo. He married Gwen in 1995 and they shared a quiet life around their common interest in nature and gardening and just enjoying home. Glenn was predeceased by his father, George and mother, Dorothy. He is survived by his loving wife, Gwen, his sons Geoff (Carly) and Brent, his grandchildren, and his brothers Colin and Lewis. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
