Gloria Martha Tornberg
April 26, 1942 – March 13, 2007
Born on April 26, 1942, in Rhein, Saskatchewan, Gloria passed away at the Hospice House in Vernon, BC, with her family by her side.
Gloria was raised in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, where she learned the value of hard and satisfying work. On November 19, 1966, Gloria married Clifford Tornberg. In November 1969, Gloria, along with her husband, dedicated her life to serving her creator, Jehovah God. Over the years, Gloria, her husband, and children moved to various communities where Cliff’s job took them. Gloria never complained and always looked for the positive in every move and looked forward to meeting and making new friends. Gloria was predeceased by her parents, Anthony and Martha Derkatch; father-in-law, Myron Tornberg and mother-in-law, Vivian Hagley. She is survived by her husband, Clifford; sons, Timothy of Edmonton, Rob (Carol) of Armstrong; Aaron (Kristy) of Regina; grandchildren, Jordan, Kelsi, Austin, Joshua, and Jesse; her brother, Ken (Ann Marie) of Victoria; brothers-in-law, Bud (Karen) of Calgary, Terry (Linda) of Edmonton, Neil (Bonnie) of Lethbridge; sister-in-law, Linda (Hugh) of St. Catherines; and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, and numerous friends from across Canada and the United States.
Gloria’s sincerity and warmth could be felt by everyone who came to know her. Gloria loved to entertain. She often, over the years, opened our home to many traveling servants of Jehovah and often used the phrase, “You are only a stranger here once”. Gloria was confident, approachable, and her deliberate efforts to be positive and encouraging were contagious to everyone she met. Glo, as she was so affectionately known, held the Bible’s promise of a future paradise on earth, a hope that sustained her especially during her illness. We look forward to seeing her again when that promise is fulfilled.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2007, at 2:30 p.m. at the East Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1424 Mission Road, Vernon. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Watchtower Society, World Wide Work.
