Gordon Herbert Barta

With heavy hearts the family regret to announce the passing of Gordon Herbert Barta on December 7th, 2014, twenty-two years to the day that his father died. He passed away peacefully in his Vernon home with loving family by his side, at the age of 80 years.

Gordon was born on May 18th, 1934 on his parent’s farm, five and a half miles west of Kennedy, Saskatchewan. He married Ethel Cameron on June 18th, 1958. Gordon spent thirty-two years serving in the Canadian Armed Forces and retired to Vernon in 1984. In his retirement years he enjoyed traveling, woodworking, home maintenance, helping others and always being there for his family.

Gordon will be lovingly remembered by his wife Ethel, to whom he was married for 56 years; son David (Vicki) and family, Melody, Levon, Kim, Courtney (Nick) and their daughter Ella; son Don (Deb) and their family, Axel, Essau, and Phoebie (Dan); one sister, Marilyn (Doug) and their family; numerous relatives on both Gordon and Ethel’s sides of the family, including a former daughter-in-law; and many friends Gordon had throughout his life.

Gordon was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His kind, gentle, trusting and understanding ways were always an inspiration to his family and friends.

In respecting Gordon’s wishes, he was cremated and there will be no service held. When remembering Gordon, please raise a glass in honour of one of his favourite sayings,

“Take it as it comes!”
