With great regret, we announce the peaceful passing of Gordon F. Wade, of Vernon, B.C., on Saturday, August 12/06 at 11:30 AM, at Gateby Intermediate Care Residence, at the age of 89 years. Gordon was predeceased by Doris, his loving wife of 55 years, and will be lovingly remembered by his one brother Garth and wife Margaret of Islington, Ontario, one daughter, Sandee Carson of Vernon, eldest son, Keith and wife Vernie of Medicine Hat, Alberta, younger son Gordon Jr. and Linda-Sue of Vernon, good friend and companion, Nell Yonkers of Vernon, five grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
After Gordon served in the RCAF during WW2 as ground crew in Saskatoon, the now growing family moved to Vancouver briefly, on to Kamloops, B.C., and then to New Westminster, B.C., where Gordon spent the balance of his working career is sales and management in the building supply trade. His interests included carpentry (he built 3 of the family homes), family camping trips, boating and fishing up and down the B.C. west coast, and was active in the Rotary Club, and the Royal City Yacht Club, where he served as Commodore.
After retirement in 1985, he and wife Doris enjoyed travelling to Hawaii, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand, as well as travelling across Canada to visit family members. They also wintered with their RV in Arizona, Nevada and California for a number of years.
In the final analysis, Gordon got his wish. He often said when his time came, he wanted to die peacefully in his sleep, not kicking and screaming like the passengers in his car. He had a warm, wonderful sense of humour, and was always willing to do things for others. He was a true gentlemen, a sweet spirit, and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
