Gordon Lider

1936 – 2007

Gordon Lider, dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend peacefully slipped away on Sunday April 8th, 2007, as a result of losing consciousness caused by inner cranial bleeding and further injury to his head as he fell from the ladder he was on, Thursday, April 5th. A resident of Vernon for 32 years, Gordon was employed by Dairyland Foods (formerly NOCA Dairy) until his retirement in 2000. Gordon’s actions always spoke louder than his words. He loved people and was always willing and eager to reach out and help those in need throughout the whole community with a cheerful smile. He loved to joke and his dry sense of humour caused laughter in many others. Most recently he was a member of the Board of “Friends of Fintry”, volunteered with Citizens on Patrol, drove the Schubert Centre Tour Bus and also drove the Masonic-sponsored van to the Kelowna Hospital Cancer Unit. Gordon was an active and committed member of Knox Presbyterian Church, moving many tables and chairs, and had a lot of fun working on many projects around the church with his two “buds” Joe and Ken. He was a long-time member of the North American Amateur Radio Club, and took his hand-held radio everywhere he went. Achieving his “Morse Code Proficiency Certificate” was a highlight in Gordon’s “ham-history”. He was a previous member of the B.P.O.E. Elks, and a member of Spallumcheen Golf Course. He was predeceased by his father Eddie Lider in 1968, his first wife Shirley May in 1991, and mother Klara Lider in 2006. He is survived by sister Loretta Ruud, brother Alvin (Amanda) Lider both in Lloydminster, Alberta, and brother Stan (Cheryl) Lider in Grand Forks, B.C. His passing is sorely grieved by daughter Karen (Allen) Lefley, granddaughter Danielle Courville, his wife, Merry, step-daughter Shelley (Paul) Neilson, and their children Hillary, Sage, Meredith and Nathan, as well as the many friends and neighbours who knew him and loved him through the years. A Memorial Service for Gordon will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, 3701-32nd Avenue, on Saturday, April 14th, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Dr. Edward Millin officiating. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to express their sympathy may send donations in memory of Gordon to the B.C. Heart & Stroke Foundation #202-3402-27th Avenue, Vernon, B.C. V1T 1S1, or the Knox Presbyterian Building Fund, 3701 32nd Avenue, Vernon, B.C. V1T 2N2. Funeral arrangements have been made with BETHEL FUNERAL CHAPEL LTD., 5605-27th Street, Vernon, B.C.
