It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gregg McKay on January 29, 2015 at 79 years of age.
Gregg was predeceased by his parents, Elwood and Doris McKay, and older brother Cam McKay.
He is survived by his sister, Enid Jones, his wife Joan (nee Edwards) of 59 years, and his five children; Brenda (Mike) Herrling, Sandra (Dwain) Johanson, Heather (Leo) Lecavalier, Gordon (Lynn) McKay, and Warren (Colleen) McKay. Gregg is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Gregg was born in Pilot Mound, Manitoba and moved with his family to Okanagan Landing, where they owned and operated McKay’s Grocery for many years. This is where he met and married Joan. Gregg and Joan raised their family in Coldstream, where Gregg was a Charter member of the Coldstream Fire Department. He was a letter carrier (the whistling mailman) in Vernon for many years until his retirement.
The family would like to thank the very dedicated staff at Heritage Square for making Gregg’s last four years as comfortable as possible.
There will be an informal gathering for friends and family at the Coldstream Women’s Institute on Saturday February 21 between 2 and 4 PM.
In lieu of flowers friends wishing to do so may make donations in memory of Gregg to the Alzheimer Society of BC, 307 Richter Street, Kelowna, BC V1Y 8N3.
