Gwynneth Fraser

passed away on June 14th, 2009 after a short stay in Vernon Jubilee Hospital, BC, with family by her side.

She was predeceased by her husband, two brothers and three sisters.

She leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Stuart Brown, four grandchildren: Kevin (Jacki Hollywood), Moira (Doug Manthorne) Timothy and Fiona and five great-grandchildren: Marc and Olivia Brown, Chloë and Zachary Manthorne and Keturah Brown.

A native of Chesterfield, England, Gwynneth came to Canada to visit her eldest sister, Jessie Kemp, in 1939 and war forced her to stay in Canada. She married Capt. Norman Fraser of Ottawa in April 1943 and lived in Hull and Ottawa until moving to Pickering in 1993 to be with her daughter and family.

Carleton University Library was her last place of work in Ottawa.

An avid reader, she also loved to travel and visited her daughter and family in Tunis, Dakar and Geneva. She always remembered her years in Nairobi and the street children she cherished. Unable to travel with Margaret to Nigeria, she moved in 2000 to family in Vernon and then to Coldstream Meadows and Heron Grove.

We will miss her love of life, her kindness and concern for others, her forthright speech. She was every inch a lady.

A memorial service will take place at All Saints’ Anglican Church on Thursday, July 2nd, 2009 at 3:30 p.m. and in Ottawa in August.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
