May 6, 1946 - May 9, 2022
In loving memory ~
On May 9, 2022 after a hard-fought battle with cancer, Hagen joined his son Derek for his 1st heavenly golf game. We know he was welcomed with open arms and a good German meal by his parents Eckart and Gisela Klose, Derek and many other family members and good friends.
Hagen was born in Buxtehude, Germany on May 6, 1946. He immigrated to Canada with his family in 1956 when he was just 10 years old and settled in Edmonton where he embraced Canadian culture. After graduation Hagen joined the Canadian Navy protecting his country as he travelled the world. His family moved to Vernon where they bought and operated the Kal Lake Auto Court (Rail Trail Cafe) and, after many careers, retired from Tolko Lavington.
He was passionate about Boy Scouts and proud to be known as Baloo (Cubs) and Mugs (Scouts). Spallumcheen Golf Course was his second home where he enjoyed time spent with many friends. Dancing, bridge games, cross-country skiing, exploring the world and a good debate were things he loved but camping with family and friends and singing campfire songs were his favourites. Hagen loved chatting with friends and strangers alike, enjoyed a good meal, a good cup of coffee and always had a great story to share.
Left to grieve Hagen are the love of his life and favourite dance partner Dorie and their children: Jay (spouse Sherry and children Kaitlyn, Brayden and Madelyn); Richard (spouse Tina and children Tia (spouse Corey, children Rayla, Kyla, and Talia); Tyler; Syrus and Layna (spouse Wes and daughter Nova) as well as his Mom, Kathy); Randi Delisimunovic (spouse Johnny and children Luka and Anica); sister Heidi Howard (spouse Dave, children Jennifer Campbell and Jason Howard) and brother Volker (spouse Sherrye and daughter Madison Browne) as well as many other family members and great friends. Hagen was predeceased in 2005 by his son Derek. We will miss his bear hugs and that twinkle in his eyes.
We honour Hagen's choice to have a family gathering in the summer.
We thank Dr. Friesen, the amazing and caring staff at the Vernon Cancer Clinic, IH Community Care and 2nd floor West at Vernon Jubilee Hospital.
