We regret to announce the death at Hospice House in Vernon on October 5, 2004, of Harold Drummond McDonald, at the age of 76 years. Harold’s profound faith held him in good stead at his passing. He left this world a better place. Harold’s contributions to life were many. He served his Church faithfully, volunteering many hours of service in various ministries as well as being a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. Harold was also very active in the community, serving as Chairman of the Winter Carnival and of the B.C. Summer Games. He was very proud of the legacy left by the Summer Games, and who can forget “Harold’s Star”, that hung for many years over Barnard Avenue during the Christmas Season and the Vernon Winter Carnival. Harold was a longtime member of Spallumcheen Golf Club and was an accomplished bridge player. He was an early Commodore of the Vernon Yacht Club. Above all, Harold was a good husband and father, being always considerate of the well being and successes of his wife, children and grandchildren. He will be missed by all: especially his wife, Shirley, and their children: Evelyn (Michael), Paul (Kathryn), Jay (Linda), and Maureen as well as his ten grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Prayers will be recited at St. James’ Roman Catholic Church on Friday, October 8, at 7:00 P.M., and Funeral Mass will be celebrated there on Saturday, October 9, at 10:00 A.M., with the Reverend Father Martin Peyton, celebrant. Friends wishing to do so may make donations in memory of Harold to either Vernon Hospice House, 3506-27 Avenue., Vernon, V1T 1S4; or to the Baerg-McMurtry Cancer Clinic at Vernon Jubilee Hospital, 2101-32 St., Vernon, V1T 5L2. Arrangements are in the care of Vernon Funeral Home. 542-0155.
