It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Hazel Marie James. Hazel passed away in Vernon, BC after a long and full life at the age of ninety.
Hazel was born in Cut Knife, Saskatchewan and grew up on the prairies. Running to school, berry picking, and musical gatherings were fond childhood memories.
Eventually she made her way to Vancouver where she met and married Bob James. They settled in at OxBow Valley Ranch in Port Coquitlam where they raised their family. In 1978 the family moved to Vernon. Many large family gatherings were held in her beautiful dream home. Hazel was an amazing cook, no matter the size of the crowd. There were wonderous creations in the canning room that were enjoyed by all. When Hazel wasn’t in the kitchen she was crocheting, crafting, doing Sudoku, square dancing, houseboating on the ShuswapandwinteringinYuma. Herveryfavouriteplacetobewasinher garden surrounded by her flowers, rock collections and multiple garden ornaments. Up until just recently, Hazel was in her element decorating for Christmas. She will be remembered for having a song and a saying for every occasion. Her life was an inspiration to us all.
She is survived by her children, Elaine Allen (John), Marilyn Gill (Steve), Cheryl Leblanc (Wayne), Debbie Rose, Ken James (Suzanne), Frank James (Bernice),andWendyIsles(Rob). Shewasaprecious”GrandmaCharlie”to 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. As well, Hazel will also be greatly missed by her siblings Elsie Morrison, Albert (Jean) Morrison, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Although Hazel will be profoundly missed, we take comfort in the fact that her beloved, Bob has his dancing partner back; and that they will be dancing and gliding through the heavens together forever.
A celebration will be held for Hazel on December 6th, 2019 at her old family home, Durali Villa at 5960 Old Kamloops Road, Vernon, BC, from 9:30 am to 2 pm. At 10:30 am, a brief formal service will take place. Family and friends are welcome to attend to celebrate the life of this wonderful woman.
