December 30, 2016

Surrounded by her loving family, Heather passed away in her home early Friday morning, December 30, 2016.  Heather was born in Indian Head, Saskatchewan on October 1, 1942, and grew up in Vernon, where she graduated high school in 1960. It was there that she met the love of her life, Bob. They were married 48 years. After graduating from Mount Royal College in Calgary, she travelled throughout Europe and North Africa. Heather was a bold adventurer and freedom-seeking traveler who sang and played guitar, shared her many stories and loved picnics. She later joined School District 22, as a secretary and assistant librarian, which was ideal as Heather loved children and books. In her retirement, she enjoyed working at the library at Little Miracles Pre-School.

Heather’s interests were varied, as seen with the different friendships that she had - her scrabble group and rummoli gang whom she loved to regale with saucy stories and tales. Heather loved spending time with her family at Mabel Lake, taking canoe rides with her daughters and reading her books on the beach.

Heather dearly loved her husband “Nibblet” and was proud of her three daughters, Shannon, Kerri and Robyn Lanaway, as well her two loving grandboys, Conrad and Roahn Lanaway.

Heathy, you were my wife, lover, friend and the mother of our daughters.

You were everything to me, and our family. You were the captain of our ship,

the soul of our home and we will miss you more than words can ever describe!

Heather is survived by her husband, three daughters, two grandsons, and her sister, Sidney Ann Leeper, as well the many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mom and dad, Muriel and Jim Thomson.

Friends and family are invited to gather to remember Heather at the Schubert Center, 3505-30th Avenue in Vernon on Saturday, January 7th, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
