It is with great sadness the family of Heinrich (Henry) Ryll announces his passing on April 14th, 2022 at the age of 87 years.
Henry was born to Rudolf and Anastasia Ryll in Kiwercze, Poland in 1934. In 1953, at the age of 18, Henry immigrated to Canada with his family aboard the Fairsea. Sponsored by the Lutheran Farm Family Association, Henry's life in Canada began in rural Saskatchewan farm country.
Henry learned English from comic books and would often chuckle when recalling his introduction to this foreign language. While in Saskatchewan, he made many friends and discovered an aptitude for mechanics.
The family bought some land in Alberton Township and started farming and were known for selling milk and cream and other goods in the area. Henry worked in a variety of positions until he was hired at the mill in Fort Frances where he worked until his retirement in 1994.
After retiring, Henry moved to Vernon, British Columbia to be closer to his dear cousin Josef and family, for the milder weather and spectacular scenery. He never lost his appreciation for the mountains and enjoyed showing them off to visiting family and friends.
Henry enjoyed dancing, polka music, playing chess and cards (especially gin rummy) and golf. He also enjoyed weekly coffee dates and beer nights with "the boys". Henry loved sports and would watch highlights of everything. He was a talented soccer player in his younger years and would often visit the pitches to enjoy a game.
Henry was united in marriage to Janice Dahlvang in 1962 and they built a life together in Alberton, with their four children.
Henry is survived by his children, Martin (Cindy), Monica, Melinda (Curtis) and Mickey (Tammy). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Rebecca, Joshua, Kenny, Kristopher, Jaykob, Mickenna, Jonah and Emily as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Henry was predeceased by his parents, Rudolf and Anastasia, his brother Martin, his wife Janice, his in-laws Alex and Alice and by his sister-in-law Judy.
In respecting Henry's wishes, he was cremated and there will be no service. Should friends desire, a donation can be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada in Henry's honour.
