December 22, 1923 - October 25, 2020
"I am sorry to inform my friends and family that I will have to cancel my party this year as I will not be attending." For those of us who were fortunate enough to have known Henry, you will understand this announcement.
Henry was born in Koldenbuttel, Germany to Alma and Detlef Christians. His only brother, Sibbern, having fallen in Russia in 1943.
He was predeceased too soon by Gretel, his wife, in 1994. Henry will be lovingly remembered by his two daughters, Inga and Gina; his grandchildren, Glenn (Jenna) and Peter; his cousin, Wilhelm and family; and many extended family members in Austria and Germany.
His lifelong passion was machining and his goal was to have his own business one day. Henry immigrated to Canada with Gretel in 1954 from Hamburg, Germany and settled in Edmonton, Alberta.
He fulfilled his dream of having a successful machine shop in Edmonton but due to health issues, he sold the business. Longing to get out of the snow and cold of Alberta, he moved the family to Vernon in 1973.
Henry has been a member of the Masons for 51 years. Gretel and Henry belonged to many groups over the years and loved to socialize and throw parties. They also had a great passion for travel and were fortunate enough to have travelled to most of the continents before Gretel passed away.
Henry lived a full life with no regrets. With his great sense of humor and slightly mischievous nature, he leaves us with this parting thought, "Guten nacht Ihr lieben sorgen, LMA bis Morgen."
In respecting Henry's wishes, he was cremated and there will be no funeral service held. The family would like to thank all his numerous friends who have kept his spirits up over the last few years with phone calls and visits.
Henry wanted it known how grateful he was for the excellent care he received over the years from his Physicians, namely Dr. Denis Lavoie and Dr. Don Smith and Jodey. If you would like to make a donation in Henry's name, his favorite charity was the North Okanagan Hospice Society, 3506-27th Avenue, Vernon, B.C. V1T 1S4.
Cremation arrangements were made with
