Helen Egri

September 27, 1924 - September 29, 2018
Helen was born on September 27th, 1924 in Szentistvan, Hungary and passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 29th, 2018 in Vernon, B.C., just two days after her 94th birthday.

Helen will be lovingly remembered by her children; Linda (Harvey) Smerychynski, Carolyn (Gary Wagenheim) Egri and Marianne Simpson, her grandchildren; Tony (Sandra) Smerychynski, Ernest (Pascale) Smerychynski, Graham (Leah) Collings, Eric Collings, Shelby (Michael) Sidoni and Sarah (Eddie) Byrne, her great-grandchildren; Sam, Cedric, Jeremy, Abigail, Joshua, Evelyn, Sean, Drew, Kelsey and Cayden, her brother; Tib (Helen) Young, her sister; Beth Petrie, her sister-in-law; Jolan Berki along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; Ernie Egri, her sister; Rose Novak and by her parents; Gaspar & Margit Yuhas.

Helen was a very loving and caring mom, grandmother (mama) and great-grandmother (great-mama). She loved gardening and tending to her beautiful flowers. She was known for her Hungarian cooking and also loved baking. Helen's granola cookies were a special favourite of all her grandchildren. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends.

Cremation preceded a Celebration of Helen's Life which will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church on Monday, October 15th, 2018 at 1:00 pm with Reverend Dr. Teresa Charlton officiating. A Reception will follow in the Knox Fellowship Hall.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the staff, nurses and caregivers at Polson - Fintry North for their incredible care, kindness and love that they showed our Mom over the last 21 months. Thank you to the staff at Vernon Jubilee Hospital and the Interior Health Community Care Team for the care provided to our Mom.

As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Helen to the Canadian Cancer Society, The Salvation Army or to the Canadian Red Cross.
