In loving memory of
Helen Elisabeth Kula (nee Doucette)
It is with sadness to announce the passing of Helen Kula on June 21, 2023, at the age of 93. Helen was predeceased by her husband John Kula of 60 years in 2007, as well as her parents Annie and Emmanuel Doucette and six siblings Albert, Evelyn, Viola, Yvonne, Edward, and Gordon. She is survived by her daughter, Yvonne Whyte (nee Kula) and brother Ronald Doucette. She was born in Winnipeg and grew up on a small farm in rural Manitoba. Like many people of her generation, Helen went to work at a very early age as a domestic, until she married and settled on a small farm near Anola, Manitoba. In the early 1960's the family moved to Transcona. Helen worked at the St. Boniface Sanitorium taking care of the elderly and disabled. She later worked for many years at the Misrericordia Hospital in the Central Supply Department until she retired. Helen was known as a caregiver, always looking after someone's needs. She was an avid gardener always searching out new plants, her favourite being roses. She loved entertaining friends and relatives and prided herself on her abundant "table". For about fifteen years Helen and her husband, John, travelled south to Texas and Arizona for the winters. They loved exploring the southwest in the winters returning to their acreage in Ethlebert, Manitoba for the summers. She moved to Terrace, B.C., in 2007 and then to Armstrong, B.C., and Vernon, B.C., until her death. She will be missed and remembered, as long as gardens grow.
