Helen Katherine McGie
Helen Katherine McGie (nee Kinnard) devoted herself to the family motto – “Life’s Work Well Done.”
Helen passed away on Saturday, October 22nd, 2011. The family wishes to thank all those involved in Helen’s compassionate care, especially at Carrington Place, Vernon Jubilee Hospital and finally, Polson Residential Care Home.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Kathy (John) Watt and son John (Rita) McGie, four grandchildren, Allison (Timo) Schaefer, Allan Watt, Michael McGie and Steven McGie. She is also survived by her youngest sister, Virginia Markle, brother-in-law Jack Ross, sister-in-law, Angela McGie, cousin Donnie (Kees) Groot, plus extended family members and friends. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Norman in 2003.
Helen was born on April 27th, 1920 in Vernon, B.C., the second of five daughters of Kenneth and Alice Kinnard. After graduating from high school she moved to Vancouver where she worked for the Bank of Montreal. She married Norman McGie in Vernon in 1946. The family lived in Alberta for many years before Norman and Helen “came home” to Vernon in 1989.
Besides working as a clerk-typist for the bank and several other firms, Helen was a conscientious wife, mother and volunteer, especially in school, community and United Church groups. Her artistic talents were expressed when sewing clothes and costumes, decorating, creating floral arrangements and editing The Trinity Times.
Cremation. A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity United Church on Saturday, November 12th, 2011 at 2:00 P.M.
