On Thursday, November 11, 2004 at the age of 88 years, Helen Smart Ingham peacefully passed away after a brief stay at Vernon’s Jubilee Hospital and the Hospice House. Thank you to all staff, volunteers and friends. Helen’s greatest joy was her family and in particular, her three boys. Predeceased by her eldest son Clifford in 1978, Helen will always be lovingly remembered by Don “Poppa”, her husband of 64 years, sons Gene (Jan), Neil (Line), many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and dear friends. Helen was born on February 16, 1916 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and grew up on a farm. She met Don Ingham at a schoolhouse dance and they married in 1940. Don and Helen raised their three boys on the Prairies, spent some time on the “Wet Coast”, moved to Peachland in 1968, and then to Vernon in 2000. Helen always played a very active role in her community, wherever she lived. Her enthusiasm, boundless energy and ready smile endeared her to all. Helen’s wisdom and her kind and gentle heart reached out to everyone who met her. She will be greatly missed by all her friends and family. A celebration of Helen’s life was held on Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at Faith Baptist Church in Vernon. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Vernon & District Hospice Society at www.vernonhospice.ca or by phoning (250) 503-1800.
