It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Arley Stefanik (nee) Pendleton on November 29, 2020 at the age of 91. She is survived by her loving husband John, many sisters and brothers in law, nieces and nephews, one brother Leslie and her sister in law Alice. Helen was predeceased by two brothers, Jack and Don.
Helen was born in Picton, Ontario on September 27, 1929. Later in 1949, she travelled to the west coast where she met the loved of her life John Stefanik in Williams Lake, BC. They were married May 10, 1950 in the Roman Catholic Church in Armstrong, BC. From there on in, Helen and John were inseparable.
Helen's business career began in Kamloops, BC in a candy and nut store. From there, they moved to the East where Helen worked as a secretary, girl Friday. They then invested in Pocahontas bungalows in Jasper Park, Alberta. Their next investment was in the Blue Stream Motel in Vernon, BC.
Helen and John loved to travel and became SNOWBIRDS in Maui, Hawaii and Arizona, besides taking an extended trip to Slovakia.
A few years ago, as Helen's health was failing, they settled in their home in Vernon, BC.
Prayers and the Liturgy of the Word were held December 3, 2020 at 11 am at Pleasant Valley Funeral Home, 4303 Pleasant Valley Road, Vernon, BC. A memorial mass will be held at a future date to be announced.
Many thanks to Allan and Marilyn Stefanik who were always there for her; Dr. Pienaar who was so kind and attentive. Also the staff at Vernon Hospice House who gave so much love and care to both Helen and her family.
