Feb 28, 2018
We regret to announce the passing of our mother, Helen Wright at her home in Polson Residential Care on February 28, 2018.
She was predeceased by her husband Laurie, daughter Barbara and son-in-law Glenn Carr. She is survived by her son Gordon, daughter Janet (Fred Nelson), daughter Elaine (Bob Bliss) and granddaughters Sue Campbell and Ellen Price.
Mum was born in 1921 in Moose Jaw, Sask. and moved to Vernon with her parents in 1937 where she finished high school and worked to help support the family. She enlisted in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps during WW2, trained in Vermillion, Alberta and served in Ottawa as company sergeant for 4 years. She was very proud of her military service to Canada.
After her marriage to Laurie in 1951 and raising her family, mum returned to work as a bookkeeper at Ladyman Chartered Accountants and then at R.E. Postill and Sons.
Mum was very active in her community and Trinity United Church. She joined Al-Anon and became treasurer for the B.C./Yukon area. She and dad enjoyed international travelling after retirement and also did many road trips in Canada and the U.S. with their Boler trailer.
Mum lived her last few years in Polson Residential Care and was very happy there.
We want to thank all of the Fintry North care aides, nurses and therapists who supported her and kept her comfortable up until her last day.
We also want to thank the Vernon Jubilee Hospital nurses and doctors in the ER, on second floor west and third floor for their care and support.
Mum did not want a funeral service and the family will gather privately to celebrate her life.
