MRS. HELENE SCHLENDER passed away in the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 15th, 2004 at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 68 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Arthur, to whom she was married for 49 years and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her mother, Ida in 2000. Helene was born on April 8th, 1936 in Michowice, Poland. She immigrated to Canada with her family in 1948. After two years in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, they travelled to Vernon and she continued her schooling. She met Arthur, fell in love and married him on November 20th, 1954 and lived in Vernon until her death. She had a variety of jobs including the Vernon Army Camp, waitressing for her Aunt and working at the Packing House. She loved her family and friends, gardening, sewing, fine needlework, travelling and taking pictures. The Funeral Service will be held at Bethel Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, September 21st, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Roy White officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. At the conclusion of the Graveside Service a Reception will take place in the Tea Room at Bethel Funeral Chapel.
