It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Helga Gisela Sass (nee Grapentin) at Kamloops Hospice House on Sunday, December 13th, 2015 at the age of 71 years old. She passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side.
Helga was born on August 2, 1944 in Schwerin, East Germany. She came from a big family and had 8 older brothers and sisters. Helga came to Canada in October of 1952 at the age of 8 years old. She was reunited with her family and lived in Kelowna, BC. In 1970, Helga married Art Sass and started her new life in Vernon, BC.
Helga will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters: Christy (Dave) Nikkel and Cindy (Kent) Neufeld. She also leaves behind four grandchildren who will dearly miss their Oma: Ben Neufeld, Abby Nikkel, Paige Neufeld and Ally Nikkel. Also saddened by her passing are her remaining siblings, Hilde Mindt and Friedel (Klaus) Albrecht. She also leaves behind a forever friend of 50 years Gisela (Otto) Korsch.
On behalf of the family, we would like to express sincere gratitude to Dr. Pritchett and all the staff at Kamloops Hospice House who cared for Mom with such love and respect. No words can express how much we appreciated all of the hugs and support you provided over the past few weeks. How you cared for Mom will never be forgotten.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, December 21, 2015 at Vernon Alliance Church with Pastor Len Mittelstaedt officiating.
